My Name is Natalie Fondell and I am the 5th-8th grade Learning Specialist and the Director of the Center for Academic Excellence. I have my Masters in Special Education from Arizona State University. During the day I will be working closely with 5th-8th grade teachers to make sure that all students are successful in the classroom. After school I will be supporting students further with the Center For Academic Excellence.

What is the Center For Academic Excellence?

The Center For Academic Excellence is a new and exciting opportunity for families in the STA community to work on reading and math after school. The center will provide students with research based programs to improve reading and math by doing work on computers.

How can I refer my student to get additional support in the classroom?

Any teacher or parent may express concern for both academic and behavioral issues. Please complete the referral form on the back of this sheet and return to the office.

What is the procedure for determining the needs of my student?

The teacher will be asked to also include the interventions they have already tried with the student (including tutoring, modifications/accommodations, ex: preferential seating, helpful partner, etc), how long they were in place and the outcomes of those interventions. Natalie Fondell will then complete an observation or series of observations on the student. After the observations we will hold a meeting with the parent, student (if applicable), all relating teachers, and an administrator to determine a plan of action for the student.
