Philosophy

The community of St. Thomas the Apostle, as Catholic educators, considers it a basic responsibility to develop in each student a strong desire to reach his/her maximum potential. We believe the Catholic environment of the school should make it possible to provide for the spiritual, intellectual, psychological, social, cultural, and physical development of each individual student so that the student may continue to grow in each area. Therefore, the Catholic environment gives testimony to Catholic morals, values, and ethics in society and in the Church.

These goals are accomplished through a sound academic curriculum into which is integrated an understanding of and respect for the Catholic faith. Through our own attitudes, examples and concern for others, we strive to bring alive for students the importance of faith in God and the knowledge to carry that faith throughout their daily lives.

Acknowledging the prime importance of instilling in each child sound principles of civic responsibility, we encourage community outreach as a means for practicing their Catholic beliefs. We consider it equally important to develop within students a process of independent thinking that will help them become effective decision-makers in their life-long search for learning.

Recognizing parent(s)/guardians(s) as the primary educators of their children, our faculty, serving as facilitators of learning, enlists the involvement, support and cooperation of the home. Ultimately, education involves home, school, and church, each enriching and reinforcing the other.
